IUCN-Med call for species experts

The IUCN Centre for Mediterranean Cooperation (IUCN-Med) is calling for voluntary experts to submit their expression of interest to contribute to the Red List assessment of different taxonomic groups in the Mediterranean Region, taking also part in the IUCN project entitled Mediterranean Biodiversity Assessment Phase II Responding to major gaps in knowledge in the Mediterranean region.

IUCN looks for experts for the assessment of the following taxonomic groups in Mediterranean countries: high altitude plants, butterflies, saproxylic beetles and dung beetles.

Experts selected will be invited to the Red Listing training workshop planned to be held during 2012, to build their capacity to later on compile and integrate up-to-date species data into the IUCN Red Listing process at both global and Mediterranean levels.

IUCN-Med seeks to ensure regional representativeness and balance, but funding limitations will only allow for a few selected experts to attend.

The deadline for submission of expressions of interest will be on December 10th 2011.
