JOINING EFFORTS

Stimulating synergies with similar initiatives in the Mediterranean and the Black Seas is one of the conditions to achieve success.

Next 26 September after the Mediterranean Coast Day celebrations in Croatia and as one example of cooperation, members of the Pegaso, SHAPE and MAREMED EU projects will sit down to share their projects results, findings and common experiences as well as to discuss working synergies for a better implementation of the ICZM Protocol.

In the afternoon of the same day, a workshop on the National ICZM Strategies for the Adriatic countries with a focus on the development of an Outline for the National ICZM Strategies tailored for the Adriatic countries will take place.

Reviewing governance and adaptation policies

A Peer Review on the cluster for the capitalization of "Governance and Adaptation Policies in Coastal Mediterranean Zones" was held in Rome, on 19 and 20 June 2012. Many common elements of capitalization and several opportunities of synergy were individuated and better defined. Gonzalo Málvarez, from the Pablo de Olavide University, presented Pegaso and its ICZM Governance Platform on this occasion.

Gonzalo adds "In the future we see the Pegaso Platform as the main hub for coastal management initiatives. We are already in the process of creating links with platforms to be developed by some other UNEP/MAP components. In this context, we would like to invite all projects and clusters that can enrich the Pegaso Platform and provide examples of coastal management in line with ICZM principles, to join us".
