MED EVEN TUN : IUCN in Tunisia

The main purpose of the IUCN week in Tunisia, held from 19 to 23 November 2012, has been to present the activities of the IUCN Centre for Mediterranean Cooperation among a wide range of stakeholders representing state organizations, scientific researchinstitutions and civil society.


The Med Even Tun has helped strengthen the collaboration with IUCN members in Tunisia and identify new initiatives and partnerships to engage in the future, particularly in the context of the implementation of the new IUCN programme for North Africa 2013-2016.


The sessions were attended by approximately 120 people from five countries of North Africa and the Mediterranean.


MedEvenTun, spread over a week, has mainly consisted of organising three meetings:


* The first meeting was devoted to the General Assembly of the MEDINA project partners (Ecosystem diagnosis and marine indicators in North Africa) from November 19 to 22;
* The second meeting was focused on the presentation of the main results of the project "Ecotourism and protected areas in North Africa", funded by the Spanish Agency of International Cooperation for Development (AECID);
* A third meeting with experts on Mediterranean biodiversity and livelihoods at which the results of the evaluation of the socio-economic values ​​of freshwater species in North Africa were presented.
