The partners

Integrated coastal zone management involves a complex network of different institutions, ranging from public authorities, businesses, and scientific communities providing quality data to help decision making towards sustainable development and nature conservation. With a coast attracting high populations, the Mediterranean has just seen the creation of an Integrated Coastal Zone Management Protocol and is looking at ways to make it effective.

The 2nd General Pegaso Meeting took place from the 4 to 8 July 2011 at the Danube Delta National Institute for Research and Development in Tulcea, Romania. More than 65 experts from the partner institutions attended this event. To ensure that the Pegaso project responds to the different stakeholder´s needs, the meeting was also attended by the members of the Users and decision-makers Committee. The next General meeting will be held in April 2013 in Rabat, Morocco.

In the meantime, the project Steering Committee will keep periodic encounters to review achievements and improve coordination of the different project components. The Steering Committee last met on 5 and 6 March 2012 in Barcelona, Spain and two additional encounters are scheduled for September 2012 and January 2013.

The implementing partners involve therefore a varied range of institutions working and bringing together different expertise areas to support the best tools and indicators at a country and regional level. A users group comprised of governments and decision making institutions is advising on the project approach, results and the degree of compliance with their needs to implement an ecosystem-based approach to coastal zone management.
