Turn on your green light, for the benefit of us all

Malaga celebrated the World Environmental Day, 5 June, with a programme of activities to raise awareness among children and youth on the need to protect our environment. The initiative was promoted by the City Council of Malaga, IUCN Member, in collaboration with the IUCN Centre for Mediterranean Cooperation and the UNESCO Chair in Communication at the University of Malaga.

Among the activities for the day, students from 14 schools participated in 15 different workshops (bikes, games, solar cooking, theater, recycling, graffiti ...). An Environmental Supplement to a major news media was also written and distributed by students downtown to help raise public awareness about the need to care for the environment, and the urgency to act to prevent the depletion of natural resources and improve our quality of life.

The awards ceremony for the Recycled Sculpture Contest, organized in collaboration with LIMASA, also took place. More than 900 students from eight primary schools in Malaga were asked to create a sculpture from items that would otherwise have been discarded or recycled.
