Key biodiversity Areas for Cetaceans and Marine Turtles in the Alboran Sea

On 23-24 October, the Doñana Biological Station hosted the second meeting of the working group of experts on cetaceans and sea turtles engaged in the POCTEFEX-Alboran-project which aims to share existing information, encourage the development of conservation plans and identify key biodiversity areas for these species in the Alboran Sea.

Experts from more than a dozen Spanish institutions shared and analyzed the available information. This meeting was organized by the IUCN Centre for Mediterranean Cooperation and the results of this working group will be presented at the final conference of the project POCTEFEX-Alborán in June 2014. This project is funded by the Program of Cross-border Cooperation Spain - External Borders (POCTEFEX), a European initiative to foster partnerships between Spain and Morocco. The meeting has also had the co-funding of the Biodiversity Foundation of the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Environment in Spain
