New information available in the PEGASO Wiki

Two wiki articles have recently been published in the PEGASO Wiki.

An article on the development and use of PEGASO project indicators for integrated coastal zone management (ICZM) in the Mediterranean and Black Seas has been produced by the partners at the Flanders Marine Institute (Belgium). The coastal indicator framework consists of a series of factsheets that provide background information and the policy context for a set of variables that will be used for assessing the status of the region´s coastal seas and the progress being made in implementing the Protocol on Integrated Coastal Zone Management in the Mediterranean. Selection of the most suitable indicators was a key step in the development of coastal management objectives and the evaluation of monitoring programmes, and was done by conducting a desk-top review of current practices and holding in-depth discussions with all partners.

Secondly, a team at Ca´ Foscari University of Venice (UNIVE) has prepared an article on the participatory methods that are being implemented in the PEGASO project. Stakeholder participation plays an important part in any ICZM process and its relevance is also highlighted in Article 14 of the ICZM Mediterranean Protocol. Under the PEGASO umbrella, the participatory process has been explored at various geographical scales and in a number of regional settings through the CASE sites, providing a good opportunity to promote better understanding of the ICZM process and the challenges of integration and coordination in different situations.
