Participatory workshop on a cross-cutting approach to coastal management

In the framework of the PEGASO collaborative project, Plan BleuIfremer,Tour du ValatRhône Mediterranean and Corsica Water Agency (as member of the PEGASO End User Committee), in collaboration with the Mohammed V-University Agdal Rabat organised a participatory workshop to share experiences and discuss the progress ahieved so far in the pilot CASE of Bouches du Rhône (France) and Al Hoceima Bay (Morocco).

This workshop was held at the Villa Valmer in Marseille, on Monday 11 February 2013, and greatly benefited from the active participation, expertise and feedback provided by a range of local coastal managers and stakeholders working in Bouches-du-Rhône and Al Hoceima.

The various tools developed within the PEGASO project (indicators, environmental and territorial diagnosis, land and ecosystem accounting (LEAC), and participatory and local scenarios) and implemented in the Collaborative Application SitEs (CASEs) were presented and discussed.

Interactions with local stakeholders gave them a better understanding of the management tools that are used every day, improving the prospects for the future implementation of the PEGASO integrated toolbox at local level. This workshop also highlighted the progress made in the studies being carried out in the CASEs, as well as several points for improvement in the coming months.

A second participatory workshop should be organized by the end of 2013 to present and discuss the final results of the CASE studies with a well-defined Local End User Committee.
