Building and enhancing capacity

Over the project's lifespan, the PEGASO consortium has fostered its internal capacity to ensure that team members can engage effectively with each other in this complex, multi- and trans-disciplinary project. The consortium has contributed and enhanced capacity in the end user and stakeholder communities through a capacity-building conceptual framework and training action plan. The implementation of this plan has shown every PEGASO partner and end user how tools and knowledge can help them directly in their work to implement ICZM.

The PEGASO capacity-building and training plan has included seven different types of session over four years. The thematic areas have been: public participation methods, ICZM Toolbox Indicators, MedOpen advanced course on ICZM, Spatial Data Infrastructure, Regional ICZM Envisioning Workshops, new scenario-building exercises using Bayesian Belief Networks (BBN) as a decision support tool, and a ‘what-if' modelling tools workshop.

Building research capacity in International Cooperation Partner Countries

PEGASO has also organized several workshops on scientific capacity building in the southern and eastern Mediterranean to assist International Cooperation Partner Countries (ICPC) in building their research capacity.

Overall, all the courses organized within the PEGASO capacity-building plan have been well received by their participants, who have improved their understanding of ICZM and the tools that can support its implementation.
