Expanding the scope of IPA monitoring in the Balkans
LINKS

During 2015, Important Plants Areas partners in the Balkans and Turkey tested the Species Monitoring Protocol developed during the October 2014 Ulcinj workshop. The results of this first year of testing will be summarised by IPAMed partners and uploaded to the IUCN-Med Document Platform shortly.

Plantlife partnered with the IUCN Centre for Mediterranean Cooperation and, with funding from the EU EuropeAid fund and the MAVA Foundation, have expanded the IPAMed Network to several countries across the Mediterranean. IPAMed project is now working at IPAs in Morocco, Algeria, Lebanon, Tunisia, Egypt, Palestina, Montenegro, Turkey, and Macedonia.

A key aim of this project is to further develop this monitoring framework. To this end,
In early 2016, Plantlife will work with partners to further develop a monitoring framework through investigating on:

• the feasibility of volunteers collecting data on additional attributes, including those relating to habitat extent and condition, threats, and conservation action;
• whether it would be possible to compliment these site-collected data with data from remote sensing platforms, such as satellite imagery, aerial photographs, and even video data collected by drones!
