LINKS

More than 70 participants from five Mediterranean countries (Tunisia, Morocco, Spain, France, Italy and Lebanon) representing IUCN Member States, governmental and non-governmental agencies, IUCN Commissions and partner organizations met in Tunis (Tunisia), from October 31st to November 4th 2016, to attend the MEDEVENTUN II.

Co-organized by the IUCN - Centre for Mediterranean Cooperation, the Ministry of Local Affairs and Environment (Tunisia), the Directorate General for Forestry (Tunisia), the Institute for Sustainable Development and International Relations IDDRI (France), the National Association of Hunting Associations and Specialized Hunting Associations (Tunisia), the National Association for Sustainable Development and Conservation of Wildlife (Tunisia) and with the financial support of the Mava Foundation, the aim of this event was to continue to make the activities of the Center for Mediterranean Cooperation known to a wide range of stakeholders representing state organizations, scientific research and civil society.

Three initiatives in the Mediterranean and North Africa were presented during the meetings and workshops that took place during the MEDEVENTUN II week, namely:

• Nature-based solutions in Tunisia's national voluntary contribution (INDC).
• Co-management of protected areas in Tunisia.
• Management of hunting and its implications for nature conservation in North Africa.

The first edition of MEDEVENTUN was organized in November 2012. This second edition enhanced existing collaboration with IUCN Members and partners in Tunisia and identified new initiatives and partnerships for the implementation of the new IUCN 2017-2020 North Africa program.
