LINKS

More than 20 experts on flora and Morocco's natural habitats gathered on May 31, 2016 in the "Centre de recherche forestier" of Rabat, to update the limits of Important Plant Areas (IPA) of Morocco. This meeting was coordinated by the IUCN Center for Mediterranean Cooperation.

Morocco has a remarkably diverse flora, with over 3500 plant species. IPAs of Morocco are characterized by a high number of endemic species. This meeting has allowed the update of the limits of 19 IPAs, which were identified in 2011 in the publication : Important Plant Areas in Southern and Eastern Mediterranean.

This initiative is part of the project "Conserving wild plants and habitats for people in the south and east Mediterranean" (IPAMed) . IPAMed represents an ambitious initiative to develop plant conservation actions in the South and East of the Mediterranean region (including North Africa, the Middle East and the Balkans ).
