IUCN-Med is deeply saddened by the loss of several collaborators, friends and supporters of North African ecosystems conservation and extend our condolences to their family, colleagues and friends.

Ali Gharbi:  President of IUCN national committee in Tunisia and President of Association Tunisienne pour la Protection de la Nature et de l'Environnement. Mr. Gharbi was one of the conservationists in Tunisia and in the Mediterranean. He has been a strong advocate for the establishment of the Mediterranean Cooperation Center in Malaga and has contributed immensely to the consolidation of the IUCN Program in Tunisia and in North Africa.He will be greatly missed by all of us. 

Nacer Riad Bendaoud: President of the Association Ecologique de Boumerdes. He was a very active Member of the IUCN for 18 years, M. Bendaoud has always been passionate about sustainable development in the Mediterranean and the conservation of the natural environment in Boumerdes and Algeria. It has been an honour counting with his expertise, enthusiasm and honesty enriching the meetings and activities of IUCN.
