Capacity building on blue carbon projects
LINKS

Blue Carbon, the carbon assimilated and stored by marine and coastal ecosystems such as wetlands, marshes, mangroves, and seagrass beds, represents a large natural carbon sink, and as such, can provide new incentives that prioritize restoration and conservation of these important ecosystems.

Therefore, comprehensive and innovative Blue Carbon projects are being launched around the world helping to consolidate the basic work for assessing the potential of these ecosystems, in order to promote a strong push on the contribution that these habitats can make to mitigate global climate change.

This first workshop, to be held on March 2019, aims to develop the capacity of the participants in:

• Identify the applications behind the Blue Carbon concept and its potential to enhance the value of coastal wetland conservation and restoration
• Prepare emission reduction or sink projects for the voluntary carbon market and understand the necessary documentation, monitoring, and verification costs for the development of these projects.
• Evaluate opportunities and limitations to implement blue carbon projects.

Addressed to:
The workshop to be held in the month of March 2019 is aimed at anyone interested in the conservation and restoration of coastal ecosystems (particularly seagrass beds and wetlands) or in the area of climate change, including technicians and managers of natural resources and protected areas, environmental consultancies, researchers and NGOs.
