The signing of an agreement this week marks the beginning of a close collaboration between both entities based in Málaga (Spain) to develop joint training programmes, as well as to organize courses, conferences and exchange information. These activities will focus on disseminating the conservation and sustainable use of natural resources and achieving the Sustainable Development Goals in accordance with Agenda 2030.

The memorandum of collaboration was signed by Julio Andrade, director of CIFAL Málaga-UNITAR and Antonio Troya, director of the IUCN Centre for Mediterranean Cooperation. Representatives of both institutions will establish a joint commission to ensure compliance with the agreement, establish internal rules of operation, as well as proposals for action, research programs and potential lines of collaboration.

As a partnering center of the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR), CIFAL Malaga holds a long history of training leaders from local and regional authorities, international organisations, the private sector and civil society.

For IUCN-Med, this agreement means a step further in the development of the capacity building strategic line, following the recent launch of modules for the development of ecotourism in protected areas on the globalconservation platform through the MEET Network project.
