The IUCN national committees of several Mediterranean countries, as well as the Interregional Committee for Europe, North and Central Asia (ICENCA), the European Policy Advisory Group (EUPAG) and the region's Working Group for National Committee Development (WGNCD) will meet on 28 September. One day later,  the Spanish IUCN Committee will host its annual meeting.

The first-ever meeting of IUCN national committees from Mediterranean countries

In the Mediterranean region, IUCN counts many different national committees, from France to Israel, Italy, Lebanon, Jordan, Morocco, Tunisia, Egypt and Spain. The IUCN-Med Week in Malaga will bring together the chairs of several of these committees for the first time in one event on 28 September. This special occasion will enable an exchange of experiences while promoting the north-south relationship.

Moreover, four IUCN councilors will be present: Imen Meliane (Regional Councillor – Africa and IUCN Vice-president), Hilde Eggermont (Regional Councillor – West Europe and IUCN Vice-president) and Samad-John Smaranda (Regional Councillor – East Europe, North and Central Asia), Sonia Castañeda (Regional Councillor – West Europe) and Maude Lelièvre (Regional Councillor – West Europe).

Joint workshop of ICENCA, WGNCD and EUPAG

This workshop will focus on the implementation of Regional Work Plans, exploring ways to enhance joint action among IUCN Members, especially through National Committees, in monitoring the implementation of the IUCN Europe Work Plan 2021-2022.

Furthermore, the relations between the work plan thematic areas and relevant IUCN resolutions from the latest World Conservation Congress will be discussed. The outcomes are expected to enhance ownership of the IUCN Nature 2030 Programme.
