New cooperation areas have been agreed between the Marine Programme of IUCN-Med and the University of Cantabria in Spain in order to build synergies and benefit from each others research projects for sustainable development and nature conservation along the coast of Egypt.

An initial meeting between the two project leaders has set up the next steps to proceed with the  interchange of data and information concerning the IUCN Project on Marine Biodiversity and Socio-economic Assessment of Sallum (supported by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs),and the University of Cantabria project on Cooperation in the development of a plan for the Integrated Coastal Zone Management of the coastal areas between Matruh and Sallum, funded by the Spanish Agency of International Cooperation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation and the Ministry of Environment.

Initial collaboration will be focused on the analysis and the assessment of the potential use of the projects GIS tools and data for zoning and planning purposes within the scope of the objectives pursued by these projects.
