Sharing experiences between Tunisian conservation NGO
LINKS

In order to capitalize on the results and share the experiences initiated under the PPI-OSCAN programme, the IUCN Center for Mediterranean Cooperation organized, on November 23rd, 2017 in Tunis, a day of national restitution with the beneficiaries of the programme in Tunisia and the representatives of governmental and non governmental structures having programs of support for the civil society organizations in Tunisia.

The objective of the meeting was to present the results of the 12 nature conservation and natural resource management projects developed since 2015 by civil society organizations under the PPI-OSCAN in Tunisia. It was pointed out that the total grants awarded by IUCN-Med reached 265,000 euros.

During the meeting, there were testimonials from the associations who presented the main achievements of their projects, the lessons learned and they discussed the sustainability of the results obtained.

In Tunisia, the PPI-OSCAN has supported a wide variety of projects, from promoting ecotourism culture, raising beekeeping, valuing biodiversity in oases and freshwater ecosystems, to rationalization of water use through the improvement of irrigation systems.

The 12 young CSOs benefited from the support of the PPI-OSCAN which allowed them to strengthen their technical, administrative and financial capacity to develop, in the short term, concrete field initiatives, and in the longer term, to contribute to the implementation of national strategies and action plans for conservation and enhancement of biodiversity, sustainable management of natural resources and the fight against climate change.

The PPI-OSCAN is a regional initiative coordinated by IUCN-Med, which started in 2014 to support young civil society organizations from four North African countries (Algeria, Libya, Morocco and Tunisia) and which has financed by the French Global Environment Facility (FFEM) and the MAVA Foundation.

A similar workshop was organised as well in Lybia on 25 December with the NGOs who participated in the PPI-OSCAN programme.
