Barcelona Convention promotes the IUCN Green List of Protected and Conserved Areas

The IUCN Green List of Protected and Conserved Areas has been recognized as a Flagship Initiative under the Mediterranean Strategy on Sustainable Development (MSSD) 2016-2025, adopted during the 19th Convention of the Parties of the Barcelona Convention, held in Athens from the 9th to the 11th of February.

More than 1600 km2 of seagrass line the Spanish coast





IUCN has produced with the Spanish Institute of Oceanography and the Institute of Coastal Ecology the Seagrass Atlas of Spain. Presenting the Red List of Mediterranean corals





The 19th Ordinary Meeting of the Contracting Parties to the Barcelona Convention hosted by the Hellenic Government, was held in Athens from 9 to 12 February 2016 with the participation of representatives of 21 Mediterranean countries and the European Union and other international organizations such IUCN, WWF, Oceana.

Flora and habitat conservation project launched in Algeria





As part of IUCN-Med's Conserving wild plants and habitats for people in the South and East Mediterranean (IPA Med) project, a kickoff workshop to launch the project's activities was held on January 18th and 19th 2016, at the Gouraya National-Park and Biosphere Reserve, to inform stakeholders about the objectives and the expected results of the project and to involve them in the different phases of its implementation.

World Meteorological Day: Hotter, drier and wetter





On this year's World Meteorological Day, the Territorial Delegation of Andalucía, Ceuta and Melilla Meteorological Agency (AEMET) invited the Centre for Mediterranean Cooperation to participate in the event with a presentation on the Challenges related to Climate Change in the Mediterranean. IUCN welcomes 11 new members in the Mediterranean





The IUCN Council has just validated the decision taken by its Bureau on January 29th and April 13th 2016 to approve the admission of 48 new Members. Eleven of them belong to the Mediterranean region. The IUCN Centre for Mediterranean Cooperation warmly welcomes these new Members in the Mediterranean region.
