Repair of irrigation channels and restoration of mountain scrublands in Sierra Nevada

Work has recently begun to restore traditional irrigation channels (acequias de careo) and restore high mountain matorral scrubland in the framework of Life ADAPTAMED. This action is entirely conducted in the Sierra Nevada National Park and is meant to make the Bérchules (south slope) and Haza Mesa (north slope) irrigation channels operational. Work on the Haza Mesa watercourse has been carried out in cooperation with the Autonomous National Parks Agency (OAPN), while the Bérchules watercourse has counted collaboration from the Bérchules Irrigation Community and the respective local authority.

Science Fair: public presentation of LIFE ADAPTAMED





The 20th Science Fair of Science Park was the setting chosen to present the LIFE ADAPTAMED project to the public. Thousands of people were able to learn about the scientific actions being conducted and their social impact on the surrounding area.

Ecological monitoring within the Life ADAPTAMED project





One of the objectives of the "Action for the Climate" LIFE programme of the EU is to improve the knowledge base for development, appraisal, monitoring, evaluation and implementation of actions and measures regarding adaptation to climate change.

Ground use and provision of ecosystem services in arid zones





One key aspect for understanding the role of soil in providing ecosystem services is perception of the effect of the processes taking place therein, from cryptic processes in the rhizosphere, land tilling and fallow cycles to the role of the length and structure of the roots of different kinds of plants.

Doñana joins project awareness workshops





On April 29th, various interactive workshops and participative activities regarding environmental education were held in the activities area of the Doñana Natural Life Ecotourism Fair at El Rocío in Huelva province.

Jujube planting and agave management





In October 2016 four camera-trap stations were installed at different sites where activities were planned in the framework of action C3: planting of jujube (Ziziphus lotus) and management of agaves, also known locally as pitas.

You can now consult the new Life ADAPTAMED website





The Life ADAPTAMED project has launched its new website to channel, disseminate and report all project activities and actions. Another aim is to present other initiatives associated to climate change mitigation actions, especially in the scope of the Life programme.
